Brief information about Beruni district

Beruni district (former Shabboz) was founded in the centre of Biybazar and Shabboz regions on July 3, 1927. Works related to organizing the district finished in the months February and May, 1928.                                 According to the decree of Oliy Majlis, after the information that great scholar Abu Raykhan Beruni was born near the capital of Khorezm, the city Kat Shabboz district was given the name of Abu Raykhan Beruni. Since than, the district is called with the name of our great grandfather.   In April in 2018 the population of the Beruni district is 184.6 thousand people. 66.1 thousand of them are living in town and 118.5 thousand are living in villages. There is one town, 23 makhallas (neighborhood), one suburb, and 13 villages.  The district is located on the right side of the Amudarya river and lies distance of 72 kilometers. The territory is 3.900 square kilometers. 28853 ha area is used for agriculture. The Kizilkum desert, Sulton Uvays mountain range, Baday, Tallik, Sariotov woods, Akchakol, Ayazkol, Moshlikol, (Hakkakol), Oqkol, Polvoshkol lakes cover the area of 255000 hectares.  Beruni district borders with Ellikkala in the north-east, with Amudarya in the west, with Karaozak and Takhtakopir in north-west, with Khorezm in the south, with Bukhara in south-east. The distance between this district and Nukus, the capital of the republic is 152 kilometers.  The Sulton Uvays mountain range is 473 meters high and has a wide range of minerals such as marble, granite, basalt, lime-stone and others. The climate of the district is continental. The temperature in summer is    38-480 degrees. In winter it riches up to 450 degrees. 70-80 days of the year is cold. Underground water 0.5-3 meters deep.                       There are many historical archeological buildings, such as Katqal’a, Filqal’a, Qizilqal’a, Akchakhanqal’a, Karatepa, Ayazqal’a fortresses and Sulton Uvays mausoleum.  8 vocational colleges, 68 secondary schools and 39 kindergartens function in Beruni district.
