BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE AMUDARYA DISTRICT

The Amudarya district is located in the south-east of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, in the middle of Amu Darya River. The main part of the district is located on the left bank and it is connected with the right side by the pontoon bridge in Kipchak and Jumurtov. South- western part is bordered with Gubatog district of Doshoguz region of Turkmanistan, Eastern part is bordered with Gurlan district of Khorezm region and northern-eastern part is bordered with Beruniy and Karauzak districts of Karakalpakistan.

It was established in December 1957 in accordance with the degree of the Presidium of the Supreme council of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Mangit-Urganch, Nukus- Mangit-Turtkul, Mangit-Doshoguz and Mangit-Gubatog highways pass through the territory of the district. In addition, the Nukus-Turtkul railway section with a total length of 39.3 km pass through it. District area is 1021sq km. As of Jul 2018 the population is 192.9 thousand people of which 50.9 thousand live in the city and 141.11 thousand live in the rural areas. The administrative center of the district, with a population of 48.4 thousand  people ,was the city of  Mangit in 1973, transformed from city-type towns into a district-wide town. Nukus-Turtkul railroad passes through the district. There is only one city district, 30 mahallas, Jumurtov small town, 3 city-type towns and 16 avul civic gatherings in the district.
